The Mercer University Libraries wants to wish you well on your finals this week! When you need a study break, be sure to grab a snack from the tables at Swilley, Tarver, and the Douglas and Henry Academic Centers.
Also, visit Tarver to participate in fun events during the week, such as making buttons and playing board games.
Need a break from studying? Stop by the Tarver Library from Monday, April 29 until Friday, May 3 for fun, creative, and relaxing events! Snacks will be provided!
Events will take place each day from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the 2nd floor of the Tarver Library.
Watch the solar eclipse at the Swilley Library! The eclipse will occur Monday, April 8 and can be viewed in Atlanta between 1:45 PM – 4:21 PM. The peak time for viewing the partial eclipse is 3:04 PM. Join us on the bridge in front of the library. Drop by the display table to grab a pair of viewing glasses and have your choice of a Moon Pie and a bag of SunChips while supplies last. Moon Pies and SunChips will also be available at the display tables at the Douglas and Henry Center libraries.
If you can’t make this event, you can watch a live broadcast of the total solar eclipse from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Mercer University Libraries celebrates National Public Health Week on behalf of our students, faculty, and staff. According to the American Public Health Association, National Public Health Week is “a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation’s health.” We are so grateful to provide library services to the College of Health Professions. From April 1 through April 7, explore the recommended films, books, and web resources. Stop by for a telescope-view of the partial solar eclipse and then head over to Tarver Library for eclipse-themed snacks!
* A limited supply of solar eclipse glasses will also be available at the event.
** East Coast viewing will see a partial eclipse and will be dependent on weather and cloud coverage.

International Education Week (IEW) is November 13 through November 17. According to the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, IEW is “an opportunity to highlight the value of global and cultural competencies and promote programs that help U.S. students and teachers develop global skills for success in the 21st century.” During IEW, Mercer University Libraries will celebrate International Day on Thursday, November 16. We are so glad to support our international students.
In collaboration with Katie Lloyd, Assistant Director of Global Services, check out last year’s YouTube video to learn about IEW and International Day. Also, visit the table displays at the Atlanta, Douglas, and Henry locations.
We are excited to host the first annual “2-Sentence Horror Story” competition for all Mercer students, faculty, and staff! This contest begins Wednesday, October 18, 2023 and stories must be submitted online by Friday, October 27, 2023. Horror stories may be about any terrifying topic or spooky subject, but must be original and two sentences only (400 characters or less).
A blind review (with identifying information removed) will be conducted by library staff to determine (3) winners, who will receive bragging rights and a spooky themed gift basket! Winners will be announced, Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
Contest Rules:
Participants must be affiliated with Mercer University (MUID & email required on form).
Entries must be submitted online by Friday, October 27 at 11:59pm.
Winners will be announced Tuesday, October 31, 2023 on Mercer University Libraries social media. Winners will also be contacted via email.
Participants may submit multiple entries, but only one can win a prize.
Stories that do not follow the 2-sentence rule will be disqualified.
Submissions that violate privacy, promote violence, or suggest illegal activity will be disqualified.
