2026 Swilley Research Award Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the 2026 Swilley Research Award! The award is given to students who demonstrate the best use of library resources to conduct their research. First place went to Anuradha Dey of the College of Pharmacy, for her poster presentation, “Parameter Driven Control of 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbate Permeation Using Fractional Ablative Laser Treatment.” Second place went to Stephanie Peixoto of the College of Nursing, for her poster presentation, “The Effects AI Technology Has on Nurse Productivity.”

Recipients of the Valerie B. Edmonds Research Award. Neely Detwiler, winner and Ethan Pellegrino, Runner-Up

Recipients of the 2026 Valerie B. Edmonds Research Award

The 2026 recipients of the Valerie B. Edmonds Student Research Award are Neely Detwiler (winner) and Ethan Pellegrino (runner-up). Neely won for her research paper, “The Minutes That Made Inequality: Race and Public Education in Savannah, Georgia 1900-1916,” and was advised by Dr. Abby Dowling, associate professor of history. Neely will receive recognition at Honors Convocation on Friday, April 10, at 4:00 P.M. in Toney Auditorium in Willingham Hall on the Macon Campus. Ethan received runner-up recognition for “Negotiating Belonging: Hong Jong-u and the Korean Diaspora” and was advised by Dr. Matt Harper, associate professor of history.

Did you receive a high grade on a library research project? Apply for the Monroe F. Swilley, Jr. Library Student Research Award!

2026 Valerie B. Edmonds Student Research Award

Have an outstanding research paper or project utilizing library resources? We want to know!

Submit an application for the Valerie B. Edmonds Student Research Award. The deadline for submission is Friday, February 6th at 5 PM. The winner will receive a $300 monetary prize and a commemorative plaque awarded at Honors Convocation on Friday, April 10, 2026, and the runner-up will receive a $200 monetary prize and certificate.

The Swilley and Tarver Libraries will be open on Sunday, January 18 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM and all locations will be closed on Monday, January 19.

Winter Break Hours for December 24, 2025 - January 1, 2026

Winter Break Hours 2025

All Mercer University Libraries will be closed from December 24, 2025 through January 1, 2026 in observance of the winter holidays.

This closure includes the 24/7 spaces at the Tarver and Swilley Libraries, which will close at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. 

The Libraries, including the 24/7 spaces, will reopen on January 2, 2026 at 8:00 AM.
