Recipients of the 2026 Valerie B. Edmonds Research Award

The 2026 recipients of the Valerie B. Edmonds Student Research Award are Neely Detwiler (winner) and Ethan Pellegrino (runner-up). Neely won for her research paper, “The Minutes That Made Inequality: Race and Public Education in Savannah, Georgia 1900-1916,” and was advised by Dr. Abby Dowling, associate professor of history. Neely will receive recognition at Honors Convocation on Friday, April 10, at 4:00 P.M. in Toney Auditorium in Willingham Hall on the Macon Campus. Ethan received runner-up recognition for “Negotiating Belonging: Hong Jong-u and the Korean Diaspora” and was advised by Dr. Matt Harper, associate professor of history.
