The Henry McCleskey collection contains a scrapbook. The book has “Newspaper Clippings” printed on the spine. “McCleskey” is on the front cover. This collection can be found on shelf 10/E/01 in the Personal Papers collection of the Mercer University Archives and Digital Initiatives.

Scope and Contents The collection consists of papers of Jesse Mercer from 1813-1841. The papers contain mostly correspondence to and from Mercer discussing the business of the Georgia Baptist Association, Baptist education, the establishment of the Hickory Log School in the Cherokee Nation for the education of Indians, Columbian College, and Mercer Institute at Penfield (Georgia). Scope and Contents The Merritt Papers contain clippings that Merritt collected from The Christian Index during the years 1915, 1917, 1920, 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1924. The 1915 and 1917 clippings are related to B.Y.P.U. events and news. The 1920-24 clippings are mainly “Our Georgia Baptist Sunday Schools” pages from the time that Merritt was a field director for the Sunday School Department. The William J. Morcock Collection consists of sermons and daily business dealings of the Morcock family. Twelve folders contain sermons and essays written by Morcock, spanning the period 1849-1874. Three folders contain receipts for purchases made by the family between 1851 and 1895. A journal/account book covering 1870-1879, a small collection of correspondence from 1855 to 1863, and some miscellaneous writings of or about other members of the family complete the collection.

Scope and Contents The Carter and Agnes Morgan Collection contain materials documenting their missionary life over the course of the twentieth century. They contain a transcript of Edgar L. Morgan Papers contain five spiral-bound books of transcripts from Dr. Morgan’s sketches of missionary life in China (originally published in the Owenton, Kentucky, News-Herald); a letter by Carter Morgan describing the collection; and memorials for Edgar L. and Lelah Carter Morgan written by Carter (their son). The Allison James Johnson Collection consists of two large, heavy ledgers. The accounts have been obscured by hundreds of clippings of secular and religious import, most of which are undated. Some dates can be found: 1905, 1926, and 1929.

Scope and Contents The Kaderly collection was acquired through at least two deposits, one shortly after Kaderly’s death and the other in May 2000. Twelve manuscript letters are related to Robert Southey, John Foster, George Gilfillan, and Horatio Smith. In addition, there are copies of letters by Southey that were published or transcribed. The James H. Kilpatrick Collection contains a scrapbook. This was apparently given to his son, William Heard Kilpatrick, upon his death in 1908. Inside are clippings, mostly from The Christian Index, but there are also clippings from the Texas Baptist Herald. There is a barely legible index of these clippings on the inside of the front and back covers. Topics var clippings and include church government, missions, temperance, and both amusing and moralistic anecdotes.
