The Eugene S. Mitchell Collection consists mainly of items from Mitchell's education at Mercer University (1857-1860) and correspondence from during and after the American Civil War (1862-1871). Series 1 consists of correspondence, mostly from Mitchell to Chloe Emma Lewis, his future wife. The bulk of the letters were written between 1863 and 1865 from Mitchell’s service in the Virginia battlefields of the Civil War. Only three letters in the collection were written by people...

The Caroline Paul King Papers contain materials related to Mrs. King’s career as a musician and music teacher (1928-1970), including programs, correspondence, news clippings, photographs, certificates, and adjudicators’ comment sheets from competitions and festivals. There is also a folder of newspaper clippings and programs relating to Mrs. King’s family, 1950-1998.

The William J. Morcock Collection consists of sermons and daily business dealings of the Morcock family. Twelve folders contain sermons and essays written by Morcock, spanning the period 1849-1874. Three folders contain receipts for purchases made by the family between 1851 and 1895. A journal/account book covering 1870-1879, a small collection of correspondence from 1855 to 1863, and some miscellaneous writings of or about other members of the family complete the collection.

The Frank Arthur Hooper III Collection consists of 29 carte de visites, 16 cabinet cards, and one memory book. The items were donated by Marjorie F. Hooper, widow of Frank Arthur Hooper, III, who was the grandson of Frank Arthur Hooper of the Mercer University class of 1885. During his grandfather’s time at Mercer, he collected carte de visites of classmates and other students during that time. Most of the cabinet cards are unlabeled and are likely of family members.
