Scope and Contents

The Cardwell Papers contain articles written by Cardwell for Church Administration, Church Training, The Deacon, Home Life, The Christian Index, and several Mercer University publications, including the Mercerian. In addition, there are pamphlets and units in three issues of Source, a Training Union study guide, written by Cardwell from 1965-1985. The articles were compiled and given to Mercer by Dr. Cardwell.

The Allison James Johnson Collection consists of two large, heavy ledgers. The accounts have been obscured by hundreds of clippings of secular and religious import, most of which are undated. Some dates can be found: 1905, 1926, and 1929.

Scope and Contents The papers cover the personal life and preaching career of Daniel Webster Key. The majority of the collection (5 folders) is correspondence, both personal and professional, from the last year of Dr. Key’s life (1926-1927). Also contained within the papers are several folders of sermons and sermon notes written by Dr. Key. The Searcy Slaton Garrison Collection contains correspondence, photographs, and programs from Mr. Garrison’s career.

The Walter B. Shurden Papers contains 10 boxes of materials. They consist of biographical sketches, copies of speeches and articles written by Shurden, papers related to Baptist organizations with which Shurden was involved, letters of recommendation, and correspondence. Original folder names and organization have been retained where possible.
