Scope and Contents

The Allison James Johnson Collection consists of two large, heavy ledgers. The accounts have been obscured by hundreds of clippings of secular and religious import, most of which are undated. Some dates can be found: 1905, 1926, and 1929.

Biographical / Historical

Allison James Johnson was born in Acworth, Georgia, in 1873. He converted to Christianity in 1890 and attended Mercer University from 1894 to 1898, graduating in 1898. Johnson was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1897 and attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1898 to 1904, graduating with his Th.M. in 1904. He served as a pastor in Georgia at various locations: Indian Springs (1899-1900), Cornelia (1906-1910), East Macon (1918-1923), Jefferson (1923-1927), and Norcross (1927-1937). His last known pastorate was at First Baptist Church, Cornelia in Cornelia, Georgia. Johnson died in 1945.
