Biographical / Historical
Timothy Furlow Callaway born on March 30, 1882, in Americus, Georgia. He earned his law degree from Mercer University’s School of Law in June 1902 and practiced law from 1902-1906 before marrying Lula Brown in 1906. The couple had four children. He was ordained into the ministry on December 26, 1906 and served as the pastor of First Baptist Church Orlando, Florida (1907-1911); Second Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia (1911-1913); Tabernacle Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia (1913-1917); Tabernacle Baptist Church, Chattanooga, Tennessee (1920-1921); and First Baptist Church of Thomasville, Georgia (1927-1951). He was the moderator of the Thomasville Baptist Association. He served as an evangelist for the Georgia Baptist Convention State Mission Board (1917-1918, 1921-1927), a member of the Executive Committee, and president of the Convention. He was also a member of the Baptist Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for over 18 years. He served as a trustee of Mercer University. Callaway died in August 1966 in Gadsden, Alabama.
