Biographical / Historical
Troy Acree was born in Gordon County, Georgia, to Dr. Marvin and Webbie Hudgins Acree. He was one of 10 children. He served in the U.S. Army 100th Infantry Division during World War II and pastored Baptist churches in Kentucky and Georgia, specifically Hartwell, Cumming, Douglasville, and Newnan. He was very involved in his community, serving as a Mountain Area Missionary for the Georgia Baptist Convention and attending McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a Mason for over 50 years, a member of the Allegheny Lodge #114, and a member of the Kiwanis Club.
Renva Acree was born in Gwinnett County, Georgia, to Dr. L. E. and Leone Moon Smith. She attended Truett McConnell University, where she earned a degree in education. She taught in the public-school system for 21 years. After she retired, Mrs. Acree remained very involved in her community and her church. She was the Georgia Representative to American Mothers and founded the Towns and Union Literacy Coalitions. She was a very active member at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School as well as serving in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and Hiawassee Baptist Association. She was also the Regional Coordinator for the Georgia Baptist Convention’s Literacy Missions.
Rev. and Mrs. Acree had four children: Wanda, Allen T. (Jr.), Marc, and Penny. They also had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Acree died on March 29, 2006, while Rev. Acree died on October 12, 2010.
