Biographical / Historical
Dr. Luther Rice Christie (1873-1939) was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, and served several churches in Georgia: Lee Street Baptist in Valdosta, First Baptist Columbus, First Baptist Savannah, and Ponce de Leon Avenue Baptist in Atlanta (assisting in their merger with Second Baptist and Buckhead Baptist to form Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist). He was active on the Home Mission, Foreign Mission, and Sunday School Boards of the Southern Baptist Convention as well as on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention.
