Scope and Contents
The Harold L. Sangster Collection contains correspondence, personal research, bulletins, diplomas, and sermons from Rev. Sangster’s career. Most of his original files have been maintained. The Personal Series has been arranged alphabetically. The Sermons Series has been subdivided roughly by date preached, special event, topic, and miscellaneous. Miscellaneous sermons were often not filed or in any particular order.

Biographical / Historical
Harold Lamar Sangster was a white man born in Dooly County, Georgia, on September 14, 1927. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II and returned to attend Mercer University, where he won the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award in 1952 and graduated in 1953. He also earned the B.D. (1956) and M.Div. (1973) from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He pastored numerous Baptist churches, including in Dalton, Lakeland, Garden City, and Tallapoosa, and concluded his career by managing the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa for 27 years. Following his retirement from full-time ministry, he continued to pastor churches until his death in 2011. He and his wife, Evelyn, had three sons. Mercer University maintains a scholarship in their honor.
