Scope and Contents

While named the Riley B. Plymale Collection, the collection appears to be more focused on Foreman M. Hawes. Hawes and Plymale were long-time friends. Both were graduates of Mercer University and faculty colleagues at Locust Grove Institute. Included in the collection are files of correspondence and materials related to Locust Grove Institute, Mercer University, and Bessie Tift College, as well as Sigma Alpha Epsilon (Georgia Psi Chapter) and the Masonic Club.

Hawes became president of Armstrong Junior College in Savannah in 1943. The Georgia Historical Society holds the papers of Hawes.
