Southern Baptist Convention

The collection includes materials related to the running of the Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union of Georgia. These items include meeting minutes, photographs, audio-visual materials, scrapbooks, serial publications, promotional and event materials, and memorabilia. The collection is divided into 15 series, largely based on the type of materials and the contents. Some boxes are more processed than the rest. The James H. Kilpatrick Collection contains a scrapbook. This was apparently given to his son, William Heard Kilpatrick, upon his death in 1908. Inside are clippings, mostly from The Christian Index, but there are also clippings from the Texas Baptist Herald. There is a barely legible index of these clippings on the inside of the front and back covers. Topics var clippings and include church government, missions, temperance, and both amusing and moralistic anecdotes.

The John Claypool Papers were found in the Cecil Sherman Collection and separated. Box 1 contains clippings, articles, speeches, correspondence, and other various papers by Claypool; Box 2 contains mainly sermons and papers from Claypool’s years at Crescent Hill Baptist Church.

The Oversize Papers Collection contains large materials that were separated from personal papers collections and university records for better storage and preservation. The bulk of the collection is diplomas from institutions other than Mercer, but there are also certificates, decrees/proclamations, and professional licenses. The documents are arranged alphabetically by recipient.

The Ruth Jinks Collections contains correspondence, photographs, ledgers, programs, leaflets, and pamphlets.

The Walter L. Moore Collection consists of 7 boxes of articles, sermons, manuscripts, and correspondence, all in good condition.
