ANTIOCH ship's log, 1826-1849
Volume covers records of the vessel Antioch, including accounts and some narratives. Some slave records included. At a later date, French lessons were added in pencil around the existing records. An 1867 map of Melbourne, Australia is tucked inside.
John Ashmead travel papers, 1784-1785, 1799
Collection includes a travel diary covering Feb. 1748 through July 1785 and ship's papers from 1799. The diary appears to have been handmade from a variety of different papers. Most diary entries include notes about wind speed and the ship's course. The last few pages include a long list of what appear to be song titles, mathematical equations, and sums. The papers from 1799 appear to be documents approving John Ashmead's ship to leave port.
