Scope and Contents

The collection consists of documents written in German longhand by anonymous authors, a book entitled “Adolf Hitler” which is a compilation of writings by members of his political inner circle, and several photographs of Colonel General Alfred Gustav Jodl, who was high-ranking military personnel in Hitler’s government; Jodl was eventually tried by the War Crimes Court in Nuremberg, Germany where he was convicted and executed.

Collection contains documents that are handwritten in longhand German. Also included are typewritten English language translations.

Biographical / Historical

Documents related to the Nazi party of Germany and Adolf Hitler donated by Mercer alumnus Leroy Cowart LL.B. class of 1941 of Statesboro, Georgia. Cowart, a retired Army lieutenant colonel came into possession of the documents when he was assigned by the Army’s Civil Affairs Division during WWII as military governor of Weisbaden, Germany.
