Biographical / Historical
Established in 1998, Mercer’s Center for Community Development worked with the City of Macon on multiple grant-funded urban revitalization projects, including Beall’s Hill and the College Hill Corridor. The Beall’s Hill project included mortgage assistance programs for Mercer faculty who chose to live in the neighborhood. By 2005, student service-learning projects were merged into these community partnerships to form the Mercer Center for Service-Learning and Community Development. This Center also partnered with Bibb County schools and organizations to create after-school programs. It was led by Dr. Peter C. Brown.
