Biographical / Historical
One organization began in February 1877 in Chicago and November in Boston. The two merged in 1909, and based themselves in New York. WABHMS began the Baptist Missionary Training School (BMTS) in Chicago, founded expressly for the training of women for missionary service. In 1955, the American Baptist Convention voted to adopt new by-laws in order to integrate the boards, staff and programs of the American Baptist Home Mission Society and the Woman's American Baptist Home Mission Society.
