Two notebooks with essays, some personal notes, arranged by scripture verses in the table of contents.

From one of the volumes: Sept 7th 1830 Commenced reading the bible in course and determined to read it audibly and distinctly with the will of strengthening the lungs, and knowing how much time is required to read it through as well as to obtain a further knowledge of the ?divine? word. May I not read in vain!

By October 20, he determined 57 hours and 33 minutes were needed.
