Biographical / Historical
Fardig was music director at Bacone College in 1930-1931, in Oklahoma. He later is found in Harvard, Illinois, having arrived about 1935. He put on The Messiah for many years, creating a choir made from students and adults. A 1974 Harvard Herald article mentions that he has been the choir director at the Methodist Church for over 36 years. He was married to Marion Virginia Ross.
Biographical / Historical
Francis F. Fardig was born in Chicago in 1905, the son of Swedish immigrants. He earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Illinois. In the fall of 1930, he went to Bacone College to teach industrial arts and direct choral music. He had been an avid photographer from the age of fifteen, and during his two years at Bacone he documented much of campus life, including the "Trail of Tears" pageant which he directed in June 1931. He left Bacone in spring 1932. The following year he married Marion Ross, whom he had met at Bacone, where she was teaching English and serving as acting dean. After living for two years in Wisconsin, they moved to Harvard, Illinois, where he taught industrial arts and directed choral music until his retirement in 1971. He continued to live in Harvard until his death in 1984.
