Biographical / Historical
Mr. Fred Gerhard Christenson, an agricultural missionary, served as a missionary of the ABFMS from 1920 to retirement in 1962. He served at Nellore, Ongole, Kurnool, Cumbum, Bapatla, Kanigiri, Nandyal, Mahbubnagar, and other areas in South India. His activities included supervising training schools and high schools, teaching agriculture and directing educational and evangelical work in rural areas. He served for a time as principal of Ongole High School and Coles Memorial High School in Kurnool.
Henrietta V. Hale, R.N., went to South India in 1937 under the appointment of the Church of the Nazarene, Rocky Ford, Colorado. She was married to Rev. Fred Christenson April 1941 at Cumbum, South India. In March 1946 the ABFMS appointed her as a missionary. Mrs. Christenson supervised children at the boarding school in Cumbum, supervised a daily dispensary for Christian and Hindu patients, toured the field with her husband, organized women’s societies and did general medical work throughout a large area.
