Biographical / Historical

Brayton Clarke Case was born in Rangoon in 1887, son of pioneer Burma missionaries. He attended Brown University for two years and received his degree from the University of California in 1910. He also attended Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University. Appointed to foreign service in November 1912, he sailed to Burma in October 1913. Brayton Case founded Pyinmana Agricultural School, and was awarded the Kaisar-i-Hind medal by the Governor of Burma for his service to practical agriculture in 1934. Case drowned while engaged in relief and rehabilitation work behind the fighting lines of the allied armies in Northern Burma in 1944.

Lena Tillman Case (1882-1939) was born in Germany but grew up in Western Pennsylvania and graduated from the State Normal School. She was appointed a missionary in 1911 arrived at the English Girls’ High School in Moulmein, Burma in 1911. In January 1917 she married Brayton Case and son Clarke was born in February 1918. At the Pyinmana Agricultural School she ministered to women in their homes, with special emphasis on the health and care of their families.
