Biographical / Historical

Baptist missionary. American Baptist Foreign Mission Society missionary in the Belgian Congo, 1928-1960.

Biographical / Historical

The Rev. Dr. Theodore E. Bubeck, for thirty-eight years a Baptist missionary in the Belgian Congo, now the Congo Republic, denied yesterday a statement that bickering educational missionaries were badly confusing people in the under-developed nations.

A statement to that effect had been made by Dr. W. Arthur Lewis, principal of the University College of the West Indies and a fonner economic adviser to the Gold Coast, Africa, last Wednesday at the Policy Conference on Economic Growth and Investment in Education in Washington.

Dr. Bubeck also took issue with Dr. Lewis' contention that missionaries in Africa were "just as much Interested in fighting one another as improving the minds of the natives."

Dr. Bubeck declared that there was much unity and fellowship among Protestant missionaries in the Congo Republic and between the missionaries and the Congolese.

Dr. Bubeck left the Congo in 1960 and is now in charge of the local office of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Societies.
