Biographical / Historical

Baptist missionary. ABFMS missionary in East China, 1915-1949. Viola was appointed by the Woman's American Baptist Foreign Mission Society with a designation to Ningpo (Ningbo), East China, on July 14, 1915. It was there, as well as in Shanghai and in Shaohsing (Shaoxing) that she had a career that spanned two World Wars; she last sailed from Shanghai in 1948. Hill graduated in 1910 from the Chicago Baptist Missionary Training School and served for two years as a teacher in Puerto Rico. After further study at the University of Redlands, she received her appointment to China.
