Scope and Contents
Gam Seng and Alice Mae Shae were Baptist missionaries in Burma, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and other Southeast Asian countries in the mid to late 1900s. This collection contains photographs, certificates, notes, writing, documents, etc. from throughout their lives and careers.
Alice Mae Simmons trained at the Baptist Missionary Training School and Andover Newton Theological Seminary, serving a long-term mission to Burma where she met and subsequently married Gam.
Gam Seng Shae was from Burma and attended Kachin Bible Training School (1956-57) and Burma Baptist Divinity School (1962, B.Th.). He and Alice moved to the U.S. where he attended Colgate Rochester Divinity School (1969, B.D.) and Union Theological Seminary (1972, Th.D., Ordained).
The Shaes later served many missions abroad together and moved around the U.S. for different academic postings.
