American Baptist Historical Society
The American Baptist Historical Society (ABHS) is the archive and historical interpreter of a major religious denomination—American Baptist Churches in the USA—made up of thousands of churches and millions of people.
As the oldest Baptist historical organization (founded in 1853) with the largest and most diverse collections of Baptist materials, some of our holdings are of irreplaceable value to the church and the nation. Our extensive archives is open daily, Monday through Friday, to researchers.
ABHS serves as keeper of the record of the modern missionary movement. Our shelves hold unparalleled resources documenting such wide-ranging topics as African-American church associations, women’s minisry, and the social gospel movement. We publish the oldest Baptist journal, American Baptist Quarterly, interpreting for modern readers the lives and issues of the past that shape who we are today.
