Shelf 2: Coins, Gods, & Grave Goods - Jewish Bronze CoinDescription
A bronze coin from the first Jewish revolt against Rome. It is from year 2 (AD 67-68) of the revolt against Nero’s plans to defile the Temple. On one side it has a narrow necked amphora and the Hebrew inscription “Year 2.”” The reverse has a vine branch with leaf and tendril and the Hebrew inscription for “Deliverance of Zion.” The symbols here refer to the important agricultural products of olive oil and wine. These revolts against Rome failed, and the Jewish population was eventually sent into the exile of the Diaspora.
