Use Mercer University’s Library Catalog to search for books and audio-visual materials in Atlanta’s Swilley Library, Macon’s Tarver Library, and the libraries for the Regional Academic Centers.

Once you have done a search in the library catalog, you can use the Limit This Search button to find books only in the Swilley Library. This button can also be used to search for a particular type of material such as videos.

If you live more than 50 miles from a Mercer University library,  use the online Materials Request Form to have books and article shipped to you.  If you return the materials by mail, please insure the package or be prepared to pay replacement costs should the package be lost.

If the book you need is not available from Mercer University, you can request it through our Interlibrary Loan Department. We will request a loan of the book from another library, and then contact you when it is available.  If you live more than 50 miles from a Mercer University campus, the material will be shipped to you.

You can also go to GALILEO and search the Worldcat database to find books and audio-visuals in libraries across the country. Items that are not owned by the Mercer University libraries can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Essays can be located using the ATLA Religion Database. These essays are generally chapters in a multi-author volume. The Library Catalog should be consulted to determine if the essays are in books owned by the Mercer University libraries.

Mercer University participates in the Georgia Library Learning Online project (GALILEO). This project is a cooperative purchasing effort to subscribe to over 120 indexes, abstracts and other electronic resources between public and private sector institutions of higher education throughout Georgia. GALILEO databases provide a valuable collection of reference resources as well as many periodical titles, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and public documents in full-text. GALILEO may be accessed in any Mercer University library or any computer on the Mercer University network. The databases may also be searched from a remote computer .

Index searching (using databases such as ATLA Religion) is the best way to find journal articles, and there are several indexes (databases) from which to choose. Some of the indexes contain some full-text articles. If the article that you need is not available full-text, click on the Find Full Text icon to see if the article is available in another database or if the library has a print copy.

Books and journal articles not held by the Mercer University Libraries may be requested from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. There are several factors that determine the amount of time needed to get the material to you. Journal articles will be sent electronically when possible. It could take a few weeks to receive the material, especially books.

Swilley Library is a member of the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education (ARCHE).  This consortium was designed to help give students access to materials not held by their institution's library.  Schools that participate include Columbia Theological Seminary, Interdenominational Theological Center, Emory University, Georgia State University, and the University of Georgia.  You will need to obtain an Interlibrary Use card from Swilley Library Reference before going to another library.
