Databases

  1. JSTOR — An online archive containing back issues of scholarly journals in many disciplines. This database was designed in conjunction with MLA as a repository for historical and simply less current articles on a variety of topics including literary studies.
  2. Wiley Online Library — Wiley Online Library is a multi-disciplinary database that includes full-text journal articles for a variety of topics and fields including those of relevance to English scholars.
  3. Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) — This multi-disciplinary full-text database includes more than 5,300 full-text periodicals, including 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,300 journals and a total of 10,900 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc.
  4. Oxford English Dictionary Online — The OED covers words from across the English-speaking world, from North America to South Africa, from Australia and New Zealand to the Caribbean. It also offers the best in etymological analysis and in listing of variant spellings, and it shows pronunciation using the International Phonetic Alphabet.
  5. Arts & Humanities (ProQuest) — Includes hundreds of titles covering Art, Architecture, Design, History, Philosophy, Music, Literature, Theatre and Cultural Studies.
