Special Collections Focus

The Special Collections Department of Swilley Library seeks to collect, organize, and preserve materials that document the heritage of the schools and colleges of the Cecil B. Day Campus of Mercer University. These include the Atlanta Baptist College, Mercer University in Atlanta, College of Arts and Sciences, and the Cecil B. Day Campus of Mercer University Atlanta and their components. Materials collected by the Special Collections Department include rare and special books and other printed materials and archival materials relating to the foregoing subjects and with the following characteristics:

A. The Special Collections Department collects books and other printed materials which are rare because of extremely limited availability, possess unique or unusual aesthetic or intrinsic qualities, or formed part of the library collections of persons or organizations associated with the heritage of the Cecil B. Day Campus of Mercer Library or were authored by such persons or organizations

B. The Special Collections Department collects original archives, manuscripts, photographic material, electronic records, and audio and visual recordings and microform or electronic reproductions of such materials.

C. The Special Collections Department will collect no material that cannot be readily read or accessed because of obsolete format. Exceptions will be made for formats that can be readily reproduced into a format that is easily accessible using the equipment and resources available at the Swilley Library.

D. The Special Collections Department will not collect any materials which require preservation or conservation treatment or storage facilities that cannot be met using the resources of Mercer University.
