Biographical / Historical

Mary Jones was born in Antrim, Ohio and graduated from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio. She taught in Ohio for a short time before heading to China in 1907. She founded the Memorial Mothercraft School at Huchow. In 1937 teachers and students alike were compelled to flee before the invading Japanese army but a temporary establishment was set up. Jones was interned by the Japanese, but the authorities gave her special consideration. She was repatriated in 1943. Her doctor recommended rest after the Christmas holidays, but she suffered a heart attack in January 1944 and passed away.
