Biographical / Historical

Clayton A. Pepper was born in 1902 in Vernon, son of Arthur and Eveleen Cook Pepper. He was a graduate of Vernon High School, Colgate University and Colgate Rochester Divnity School. He married Gustina Austin of Stony Creek in 1925.

He held pastorates in Horicon and Westport, New York, and Bradford, Rhode Island. For ten years he was town and country director of for the Ohio Baptist Convention and later field director, town and country work for the American Baptist Home Mission Society. Pepper authored "Streams of Influence," a history of the rural church movement in 1973. He retired in 1980.
