Immediate Source of Acquisition

In April 2020. Head of Archives and Special Collections Jill Sweetapple located ABHS organizational records that show Alice B. Kline gave the larger journal in May 1975. The smaller book was sent, possibly, in September 1975. Kline mentions other sections of the journal are with the Newport Historical Society, and their inventory lists (April 2020) a journal covering 1777 to 1797. Kline sent transcriptions of both volumes.

Related Materials

The journal was transcribed and published by Ruth Ann Wilder Sherman in 1981 and held at ABHS:

Peleg Burroughs (1748-1800) was the descendant of Thomas and Abigail Burroughs and the son of Samuel and Mary Brown Burroughs. He married Kezia Burdick West in 1772. They lived in Newport and Tiverton, Rhode Island where he was a Baptist minister. Descendants lived chiefly in New England.
