Biographical / Historical

From International Ministries obituary, December 1974

The splendid missionary life of Edith Traver is a direct outcome of a mothers' consecration of her child to the Master's service. This was done definitley at the time of Edith's birth, which took place in Moscow, Idaho. She was a sickly babe but the mother's prayers that she be spared for a life of missioary service were answered. However, the mother never told the child of her definite dedication to missioanry service, and not until years later, at the time of her father's death in May 1902, did she surrender to the call that she felt was always hers but which she had alwaya resisted.

Miss Traver was commissionred by the WABFMS on April 23, 1906 for service in Swatow, South China. She first sailed in October of the same year and served as a China missionary until her retirement on July 1, 1939. Since retirement, she has lived in her home state of Washington, spending her last few years in the miedical center of the Riverview Terrace retirement home in Spokane. She passed away in 1973.
